November 10, 1996, Amtrak San Diegan Trains and Amtrak Motor Coach Connections began serving the Five Cities area from a new stop in Grover Beach -- 150 Grand Avenue. (The Pismo Beach Bus Stop at Denny's is closed.) This is the first in a series of new stations planned by Amtrak and Caltrans to provide better access to Amtrak's services in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties.Future stations in the area include Guadalupe, Goleta, Surf, and Carpinteria.
The Grover Beach station contains two spacious parking lots, an attractive building, and telephones. Platforms will be the new standard height, eight inches above top of rail, for easy boarding and deboarding. Platforms will be lighted during nights and foggy days. Grounds will be landscaped. Grover Beach and the Five Cities Area is served each day by one northbound and one southbound San Diegan Train, by two Amtrak Motor Coach connections to/from San Diegan trains in Santa Barbara, by one Amtrak Motor Coach connection to/from Amtrak's Capitol Corridor service in San Jose, and by one Amtrak Motor Coach connection to/from Amtrak's San Joaquin train in Hanford.
